The Midland Metro Alliance opens its doors for Macmillan

The Midland Metro Alliance opened its doors to all on Friday 29 September when it hosted Women in Rail West Midland’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan.

Midland Metro Alliance staff members showcased their baking skills as they donated cakes in support of the event which is looking to raise £8 million pounds for cancer research across the UK.

Alejandro Moreno, Director of the Midland Metro Alliance, said: “It was great to see the culinary skills of staff on display for such a worthy cause. We were really honoured to host the Women in Rail West Midlands group’s event.”

As well as selling coffees, teas and cakes, the Midland Metro Alliance’s coffee morning raised over £200 through raffles and other activities. The usually bright pink offices were turned a shade of green and purple as Macmillan bunting decorated the team’s offices at Alpha Tower in Birmingham City Centre.

Rose Rees, Training and Development Manager for the Midland Metro Alliance, said: “Another great benefit of this event was the opportunity for us to network with the other members of the regional Women in Rail group. It was good to get to know them better and introduce what the team are doing here in the West Midlands. We had about 40 attendees in all and it was great to chat with them.”

Macmillan’s Chief Executive, Sir Ciarán Devane, said of the event: “Every penny raised at a coffee morning will help fund more services for people affected by cancer. All events – no matter how small – mean practical, medical, financial and emotional support to help to change the lives of everyone affected by cancer for the better.”
